Commercial Facade – Bilston St, Stafford

Introduction

When it comes to commercial buildings, image matters a lot. It’s the first impression that potential clients or customers get about your business. One significant aspect that contributes to this image is the building’s facade. DC Painters were called in here to repaint the facade and roller doors of this commercial building to bring the colour scheme more inline with our clients other building nearby.

Choosing the Right Paint

The choice of paint is critical in determining the final look and durability of the facade. It’s not just about the colour, but also the quality of the paint in order to stand up to Brisbane weather. For commercial buildings, it’s imperative to use weatherproof and fade-resistant paints that can withstand exposure to elements, especially if the building is located in an area prone to severe weather conditions. In this scenario we chose to go with Dulux “Weathershield” The clients colour choice was made to reflect their brand’s image.

Preparing the Surface

Before the actual painting begins, the surface needs to be prepared properly to ensure that the paint adheres well and lasts longer. This may involve cleaning the surface, scraping off old paint, filling in cracks, and applying a primer. Ignoring this step can lead to the paint peeling off prematurely, leading to frequent repainting which can be costly in the long run.

Some extensive prep work was required on this job, we utilised an electric pressure washer initially to clean down the entire building before moving to a hand scraper and sander to remove some of the flaking paint. Any areas taken back to bare substrate were spot primed with a suitable primer before moving on to the top coat.

Using Access Equipment

Painting the facade of a commercial building often involves working at height and requires the use of access equipment. This is not a task to take lightly, as it demands specialist knowledge and skills for safe and effective operation.

Access equipment, such as elevated work platforms, enables safe access to higher areas of the building. Professionals are trained to set up and use this equipment correctly, ensuring a steady and secure platform for the painting work.

It’s important to consider the location of powerlines when using access equipment. In this instance we had to deal with some powerlines entering the building so we called in an electrician to disconnect the power feed from the nearest pole. We worked quickly around the area and had the power restored to the building with minimal disruption to our client.

Conclusion

Refurbishing a commercial building’s facade with a fresh paint job is a substantial project requiring proper planning and execution. The objective extends beyond aesthetic appeal, focusing also on longevity and cost-effectiveness of the paint job. With the selection of the appropriate weather-resistant paint, diligent surface preparation, and the involvement of professional painters, it is possible to attain a superior, enduring finish that elevates your commercial property’s image.
